Innovia Films has introduced RayoForm, its new range of biaxially oriented polypropylene (BOPP) in-mold label (IML) films for injection molding. RayoForm is manufactured using the company’s proprietary “bubble” production process which gives the film a balanced biaxial orientation and therefore broadly equal mechanical properties in the machine and transverse direction. This, coupled with the high machine direction stiffness, when compared to Stenter produced films, gives specific advantages through both conversion and molding operations.

RayoForm IW, a solid white film, is designed to give a gloss effect on containers after molding. It enables downgauging from cast polypropylene and also offers a more robust performance during both the printing and molding processes, the company says. A clear version of RayoForm is also available – RayoForm IC.

“RayoForm IML films for injection molding is a new area for Innovia Films, but we believe that our production process offers some real benefits throughout the supply chain,” said Steve Langstaff, product manager BOPP. “Our ability to produce stiff, thick, solid BOPP is practically unique and coupled with our coating expertise allows us to grow our existing product range in the IML field.”

The company is also featuring its expanded range of sustainable and compostable label facestock films for PS applications with a new offering, NatureFlex NML. Metalized NatureFlex NML is a cellulose-based film made from renewable and sustainable wood-pulp, sourced from FSC-certified suppliers. “We are delighted to be able to introduce this new film, which widens the choice of decoration options for labeling applications. NatureFlex NML provides a high gloss and metal lustre to the end user whilst offering the converter and printer all the features expected of a label facestock including high dimensional stability, excellent print-receptivity and ease of diecutting,” said Mike Taylor, product manager.
